Our Communities
At Cook Inlet Housing Authority we measure our success not only by the number of housing units we build, but also by the impact we have on our communities. To maximize our impact we focus our resources and efforts in some of Southcentral Alaska’s core communities.
Neighborhood Spotlight: Spenard
Historically a separate city from Anchorage, Spenard began as a lumber camp during the construction of the Alaska Railroad. During the oil boom of the early 1980s, Spenard's bars and gambling institutions made it a well known “red light district." Today, Spenard is in the midst of a neighborhood revitalization driven by new housing, new small businesses, and the local arts community.
